NWA 2016- 1st $500 Orphanage Center Winner
NWA’s 1st orphanage center winner is Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy (DMMM) Congregation, also known as “Mercy Sisters”. DMMM is a religious owned orphanage center founded in 1961 by late Bishop Anthony Gogo Nwedo, C.S.Sp. DMMM or Mercy Sisters is now under the care of Rev. Sister Anita Ogbonna, who is the center coordinator. DMMM is located in Ahiaeke Ndume in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, Nigeria. DMMM carters for children from age infant to 18yrs old, providing them with food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities. The center also assists with payment of tuition for these children. The money donated to DMMM by Nigerian Women Association in Colorado (NWA) will go towards proving financial assistance in providing necessary care to the children at the center.
8th $500 Widow Winner
NWA’s 8th $500 widow winner- Ijeoma Nwanaju is a 45yrs old office assistance worker and widow with two children ages 7yrs to 18yrs. Ijeoma is from Umunohu Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA in Imo State, Nigeria. She lost her husband in 2013 to a heart attack. She is left to carter for her two children of whom one is a child with special needs resulting from a brain injury from a car accident.
7th $500 widow winner
NWA’s 7th $500 widow winner- Ifeoma Chukwuemeka is a 37yrs old widow with five children, ages 5yrs to 16yrs. Ifeoma is from Ikeduru LGA in Imo State, Nigeria. She lost her husband in 2013 in Onitsha. After her husband’s demise, she moved to Ikeduru with her children and started moin moin business in order to support her children.
6th $500 widow winner
NWA’s 6th $500 widow winner- Okwuchi Onuiri is a 37yrs old widow with five children, ages 2yrs to 10 yrs. Okwuchi is from Umuabiakwa, Obingwa LGA in Abia State, Nigeria. She supports her children as a hired hand for odd jobs. She lost her husband in 2015 to diabetes leaving her to carter for her five young children alone.
5th $500 Widow Winner
NWA’s 5th $500 widow winner- Mary Onye is a 34yrs old laborer and widow with four children, ages 6yrs to 10yrs. Mary is from Amaimo LGA in Imo state, Nigeria. She lost her husband in 2010 after she had just put to bed. Since her husband’s demise, she continues to struggle with poor health condition doing laboring jobs to carter for her young children.
